Liezel Gouws is set to defend her IHRA Junior Dragster championship with the upcoming national season, kicking off with the East Coast Thunder at Sydney Dragway on the 4th of November.
Liezel will be starting the 2018/19 season in a brand-new JR Racecar Hercules chassis, running the same engine combination that lead to championship victory in the 2017/18 season. The new car arrived late August this year from Denver, Colorado, imported by the team at SCG Racing Parts who have since been busy preparing the car for a mammoth year of racing.
“I am very excited to be racing in my new car” Said Liezel, “though I am really going to miss my old car. It was my stepping stone into drag racing and the car that I had
major success in.” With five national events scheduled this year along with various Junior and local events, the team look forward to showcasing the new car with state-of-the-art Junior Dragster equipment.
Following on from her success in Australia, in the team’s most recent trip to the United States, Liezel was invited to complete her NHRA Junior Dragster License. With plans currently being made for her to compete in the Junior Dragster League at Bristol Dragway in 2019.
The east coast conference at Bristol Dragway hosts up too 1000 junior dragster racers from all over the world, all competing in the hope to win a “Wally”. With 4 days of non-stop Junior Dragster action, Liezel is keen to leave another mark in the history of Junior dragster racers.
